– am i talking over others? are those others mostly women?

– why does this person feel like that? how can i acknowledge their feelings?

– does she seem comfortable around me? if not, why?

– am i devaluing women as a joke/when they make me angry? am i insulting women’s appearance and sanity whenever they make me angry?

– am i listening to other people’s knowledge/experiences or am i only talking about my own? how can i share my knowledge/experiences in a respectful way that doesn’t monopolize conversation or infantalize others (primarily women)?

While the death threats aren’t okay at all, it’s still not okay to treat trans women like cis men, impose transphobic bathroom laws, tell trans women they aren’t lesbians, etc. Transphobic radical feminists can tell themselves they’re not transphobic all they want but to the rest of is it’s the same thing as a “traditional marriage” believer claiming they’re not homophobic. They absolutely are.

Allow me to chime in, because I was just so appreciative of your using my right to get married — that I fought for and was spat on and disowned by family members for — to a trans individual’s entitlement to female spaces.

I’m really glad you brought up bathroom access laws, though!

I mean, it’s important to acknowledge that the man who originated them is a convicted child sex offender who is currently serving time… as the President of the Board of the Charlotte LGBT Chamber of Commerce.

It’s also important to note that the CLGBTCC was not only aware of this paedophile pushing for male access to female restrooms, they supported him, and gave him the position of President. I’m so glad to know he had that support. It’s so hard for convicted sex offending felons to reintegrate into the community!

And of course, there’s also the evidence from Target that subsequent to their gender neutral bathroom policies, sexual assaults increased — including voyeurism!

And then there’s the instance where the University of Toronto went gender-neutral for about a hot second… until two women were sexually assaulted and recorded showering.

And there was the instance of Jessica Hambrook, who took up a bed in a domestic violence shelter in the dead of winter… this, despite being a convicted child sex offender! No surprises when Jessica Hambrook turned around and assaulted two women (one of them Deaf) and a child. The women were so frightened of Jessica that they slept in their swimsuits to make sexual assault harder.

But by all means! Please do compare my right to coparent my child, visit her at school, and make medical and financial decisions on behalf of my wife…

I’m all for adding a family style single stall gender neutral restroom in businesses. Because I know real trans folks do get harassed in restrooms and they deserve to feel safe. Male/Female restrooms are still important because men do take advantage of the current trans affirmative language being used. If actual trans women wanna use a women’s restroom that’s fine. I just think the conversation should have never been brought up and many trans folks agree. Before Obama tried to make this trans affirming bathroom bill, there was little to no conversation happening about this, meaning actual harmless trans folks were already using the bathrooms they wanted or gender neutral bathrooms a lot more peacefully than they are now. And now women, natal and trans, are being subjected to men saying they’re women to gain access to our spaces.

I understand actual trans women and aren’t the same exact thing as cis men. Trans women, particularly those who transition and even pass at a young age, experience a lot of the same treatment as natal women. But they can never understand the full scope of what it’s like to actually be born female and be socialized as such. However, Trans women have all experienced what it’s like to be a man and live as a boy/man in the world even if they were experiencing gender dysphoria. They still had male privilege and socialization that doesn’t disappear upon transition. There are some traits and formative experiences they will never be able to share with natal women and that is something I will never be able to understand how some folks can disagree with.
